Collaboration for Climate Action

The German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, the State of Baden-Württemberg and the City of Heidelberg will jointly host the International Conference on Climate Action – ICCA2019 – in Heidelberg on 22 and 23 May 2019. The conference will bring together leaders and decision-makers from countries, regions and cities as well as stakeholders and experts from around the world.

EIT Climate-KIC and Impact Hub are jointly hosting a cluster session on “Innovative Solutions”: The search for innovative solutions that address climate related challenges must bring together unlikely allies such as start-ups or innovative NGOs with local government or administration. Such partnerships for climate innovation do not evolve naturally, given their often very divergent modes of operation. Secondly, digital technology such as smart city solutions have tremendous potential to contribute to effective climate action.

In this cluster session keynotes are reflecting these two important and intertwined topics around innovative solutions for climate action. Case studies will be the basis for practical reflection and discussion. The interactive setting of the session will enable participants to derive recommendations on how to integrate the innovation potential of start-ups and digital solutions into local climate action.

Speakers include:

  • Rita Schwarzelühr-Sutter – Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (Welcoming Remarks)
  • Leon Reiner – Co-Founder / Managing Director of Impact Hub Berlin

  • Dr. Tom Mitchell – Chief Strategy Officer of  EIT Climate-KIC

Organizers:

  • German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety,
    State of Baden-Württemberg
  • City of Heidelberg
