Real Estate – The use of blended finance in upgrading building stock

The workshop will explore

• the barriers that are stopping the scale up of retrofit that is a required element for the energy transition of communities to support the move to net zero carbon,
• how these barriers manifest in Germany and similarities and differences with other European countries,
• why current models for implementation are failing to overcome those barriers,
• some proposed financial solutions that are scalable to drive change and attract capital, particularly from institutional investors alongside public funding
• how building retrofit could become a component of a broader and deeper regeneration of communities including how to retain wealth in the local economy and overhaul the energy system at a district level.
